S-04 Contemporary Spain: Economy, Society and Environment (3 credits)
Discover the rich diversity of Spain—its regions, people, and traditions—shaped by centuries of history, culture, and geography. This course offers an open and critical overview of modern Spain, examining the country’s economic, social, and environmental challenges in the context of globalization, urbanization, and tourism. Through press articles, videos, reports, and presentations, students will explore how Spain’s regional identities and current issues reflect its dynamic and complex reality.

S-05 Initiation to the Practice of Flamenco Through Rhythm, Dance, Singing and Guitar (3 credits)
Explore flamenco as both an art form and a vibrant expression of Andalusian identity, history, and spirit. This course delves into the interconnection between song (cante), dance (baile), and guitar (toque), tracing flamenco’s roots to the blending of Moorish, Jewish, Roma, and indigenous Andalusian traditions. Students will learn about the rhythmic language, improvisation, and cultural significance that define flamenco, gaining insight into its unique performance practices and deep emotional resonance.
